During the Reading Festival students participated in a Genre Hoop game. The purpose of this game was to have the students use titles and book jackets to help them determine what genre the book fell under. Students learn important literary terms such as fiction and non-fiction and are well aware of the many different genres available for private reading. As a group we also enjoyed several tales told in the form of an audiobook. We see how the importance of reading with an imagination or having somebody uses expression while reading can make the experience that much more enjoyable. We tried to use these same strategies for our Reading Buddy session that we held today with the younger grades. One of the first steps in engaging our younger grades to read it by reading to them in a fun and exciting manner!
